GUEST SPEAKER: Our guest speaker today was Carol Lamparello, Chief of Staff for the Hudson County Prosecutors Office. The Prosecutor is Esther Suarez who is the first female, Hispanic for the County. The Office is the top law enforcement agency in the County. Under the prosecutor are all Police Chiefs in the County, Assistant Prosecutors, Investigators and Support Staff. Besides the normal duties i.e., Drug Unit, Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, Appellate Division, the department is involved in many community outreach programs. Detectives go to schools, fairs, public events to fingerprint children for parents' records, talk in schools about gangs, drugs, sexting, evidence collection and review security measures for schools and houses of worship. Officers attend special training on use of force. Religious leaders are being are being brought together to show how an incident is investigated. May is National Drug Court Month. The Criminal Justice Reform program concentrates on rehabilitation and treatment rather than incarceration. We thank Ms. Lamparello for joining us today and presenting a very a informative program.
PRESIDENT'S CORNER:
BHS Interact is conducting a fundraiser for school supplies, i.e. pencils, pens, single subject notebooks, etc. These will be made available to BHS students in September who cannot afford school supplies. There will be a box for donations at our Citizenship Award Breakfast on June 5th.
Melissa's final fundraiser will be the production of Aladdin on June 14th @ 7 p.m. at St. Andrew's Gym. Ticket cost is $12 per person.
