GUESTS SPEAKER: Our guest speaker today was Visiting Rotarian Brian Lott. Brian has led a very interesting life and still is. He was born in England, worked as GM for the Queen Mother, moved to Canada then went onto Africa. In Africa, Brian worked for various restaurants before opening his own. Nelson Mandella was in need of a personal chef and Brian stepped in for this task. He relayed stories of Mr. Mandella and Desmond Tutu telling us what great men they were. He was honored to have known both of these men. Brian also has an art gallery in Mexico. (Elizabeth will be posting his photo and website on Facebook.) As a Rotarian, he is part of a Wheelchair Foundation which supplies wheelchairs to those in need in Mexico, 17% of the population. Currently, his club has joined with 3 other clubs in his district for a 3-day Ribfest. They expect to raise over $150,000, impressive. If you did not attend today's meeting, you missed a very interesting, active Rotarian.
PRESIDENT'S CORNER:
Rotary regulations allow each club to be flexible with their meetings. Therefore, effective IMMEDIATELY we will meet at the Chandelier on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. The time has also been changed to 7:45 a.m. The meeting on the 2nd Tuesday we will have a guest speaker and the 4th Tuesday meeting will be reserved for Rotary Business and "Meet your fellow Rotarian" where we will learn about what each of us do. Our next meeting will be August 14th.
The 3rd week of the month will be a Service Project to be held at lunchtime. The first will be on September 18th at a senior citizen location TBA.
Networking Sessions (usually on the first Tuesday in the evening) will be conducted QUARTERLY. The first will be October 2nd at DiNois's. Start looking now for a guest to bring to this Networking Session.
Our first fundraiser will be an Octoberfest. Date, time and location is to be announced.
Currently we have $4,000 in our Operating Account. RI dues and dictionaries will have to be paid which will take a good portion of this money. Please send in your first quarter dues so we have funds available.
Viriginia's responsibilities have expanded as President-Elect. She will be assisting Silvana with invoices and payments.
Fellow Rotarian Gregory Cook discussed a project that we should look into. CarePoint has a surplus of medicine that is not expired and wanted to send it to Puerto Rico but because of all the "red tape" that could not be accomplished. I (Rosemary) will reach out to our District Governor to see if she can steer us in the right direction to send these supplies to Rotary Clubs in other countries. It is a great International Project that will not require too much effort. I will keep you posted.
